Road Recap: MS, WVB Open Seasons

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – While the Cal Lutheran women's soccer team opened its 2017 campaign in the friendly confines of William Rolland Stadium this evening, both the men's soccer and women's volleyball programs started their respective seasons on the road at out-of-state tournaments.

Kingsmen Soccer (CLU 3, F&M 2)
CLU got its 2017 campaign underway at Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) where the Kingsmen defeated the No. 6 Diplomats by a 3-2 margin. Max Sharpe chipped the ball over the defense for a 50-50 chance between Kearney and the goalkeeper. Kearney doubled up the Diplomats as he put the ball in the back of the net.

Franklin & Marshall answered with a goal of their own to cut the lead to 2-1. In the 45th minute, Kearney had a shot on goal that was blocked. Danny Pacheco was right there for the rebound and made it 3-1 Kingsmen. The Diplomats would score once in the second half as the Cal Lutheran prevailed 3-2.

A slew of Kingsmen suited up in Violet and Gold for the first time today with Pacheco, Connor Newfeld-Griffin, Jake Rast and Stevie Ray Trujillo each making his debut for Cal Lutheran.
