Regals Score Early Against Concordia (Tex.), Coast to First Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — On a scorching day in William Rolland Stadium, it was Cal Lutheran Regals soccer that was cool, calm, and collected, as they defeated Concordia (Tex.) 3-1 on Monday morning. 

The Regals had 10 shots on goal as Isabella Veljacic, Ashley Escamilla and Savana Durr all scored. Elisa Shott and Veljacic recorded an assist.

Brissa Garcia-Sandoval started the game in goal for the Regals and got the first win of the season. She made three saves in her debut.

The Regals got on the board instantly, in the third minute, as Veljacic dribbled around the defense and hit a pin-point shot to the lower right corner of the net. 

In the 10th minute, the Violet and Gold added to their lead, as Escamilla recorded the first goal of her collegiate career. After a shot occurred, the ball was bouncing around in the box, Shott got the assist as she found Escamilla for the goal.

The defenses settled in after that as both teams had more chances, but could not convert. 

In the second half, Cal Lutheran kept the goals coming. In the 61st minute, Durr scored with the assist by Veljacic. 

Concordia finally broke through in the 69th minute. A ball played through the Regals' back line found two Tornadoes wide open and they scored to take away a clean sheet. 

Cal Lutheran continues the season at home. In the final non-conference game, the Regals host Wshington (Mo.) on Friday at 7 p.m.
