West Named Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — California Lutheran University student-athlete Avery West was selected Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.

West (Santa Rosa, Calif.) earned SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career. West, a defender, helped limit Cal Lutheran's opponents to a combined eight shots on goal over a pair of shutout victories – the Regals' fifth and sixth of the season. The sophomore also contributed a late insurance goal in the 2-0 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and assisted on another late strike against the University of La Verne, a 3-0 win. The Regals' defense has been the second stingiest in the SCIAC and has them ranked second only to No. 16/25 Pomona-Pitzer at the midpoint of the season.

The Regals will try and continue their hot streak on Wednesday. Cal Lutheran is at Occidental with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
