Veljacic SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Weaver Defensive Player of the Year; Regals Land Six on All-SCIAC Team

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. Isabella Veljacic and Katie Weaver swept the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards as Cal Lutheran women's soccer made its mark on the All-Conference honors.

The duo was also named First Team, and was joined by Adriana Maroney, as the Regals garnered an athlete from offense, midfield and defense. Six Regals earned All-SCIAC as Logan Duford, Danielle Vis and Avery West garnered Second Team. The second-most of any team.

This is the second year the SCIAC has done an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. In the second year, the Regals made program history, and took both.

Veljacic (Monterey Park, Calif.) is the eighth Regal to earn a SCIAC Player of the Year award and the first to win Offensive Player of the Year. A two-time First Team honoree, 2021 and now 2022, the forward guided an offense that was the second-most prolific in the conference. She scored three goals and assisted on another as an ever-present threat up top for the Regals. The senior led Cal Lutheran to a second-place finish and the #2 seed in the SCIAC Tournament.

Weaver (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) continued the trend and is the ninth Regal to earn SCIAC Player of the Year as she garnered the program's first Defensive Player of the Year honor. A First Team All-SCIAC selection for the second straight year, Weaver joined her teammate, Veljacic, in being an invaluable presence on the field for the Regals. The defense tied for the league lead in fewest goals (six) and shots on goal allowed (46) in 12 games.

Maroney (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned her first All-SCIAC honor and controlled the center of the field for the Regals. As a midfielder, the sophomore helped orchestrate the offense while also providing defensive help. The First Team honoree helped the offense score the second-most goals in conference play with 16. The defense had the most shutouts with eight and tied for the least amount of goals-against with six.

Duford (Denver, Colo.) earned the first All-SCIAC selection of her career and landed on the Second Team. As Cal Lutheran's primary goalkeeper, she played in 11 conference games and logged just under 1,000 minutes. She allowed just five goals, with 39 saves, for a percentage of .886. She helped her team shutout a conference-high eight opponents and had a conference-low goals-against-average of 0.45.

Vis (Fremont, Calif.) earned her third All-SCIAC honor and has been named to the Second Team every time. The forward scored three goals and recorded an assist for a total of seven points. She tallied 13 shots as the Regal offense was relentless.

West (Santa Rosa, Calif.) earned her first All-SCIAC honor and was Second Team. The sophomore combined with Weaver to anchor a stealth defense for the Regals. She scored one goal and added two assists while helping the defense shutout eight conference opponents.

The Regals are back in the SCIAC Tournament, which they have been every year. Cal Lutheran host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tonight at 7 p.m.
