Regals Hand Occidental Loss; DiMuro Records Double Double, Iwahashi Drains 24

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – Regals basketball hosted the Occidental Tigers tonight in Gilbert Arena. It was a well deserved 80-72 win for the Purple and Gold.

The Regals took an immediate lead and remained there at distance for the majority of the first quarter. The Tigers tried to gain momentum but Cameron Mallory secured the lead with two back to back three pointers to close out the first 10 minutes.

It was a tight second quarter as the Regals outscored the Tigers by just one point. This gave them a 39-32 lead heading into halftime. Occidental gained momentum in the third quarter and took the lead of 59-54 with just 10 minutes to play.

After a heavy offensive presence and numerous crafty plays, the Regals bounced back and doubled Occidentals score in the fourth quarter, giving them the win.

Aliya DiMuro earned a double double with a total of 14 points and 10 rebounds. She went seven for 10 from the field.

Mackenzy Iwahashi was unstoppable in the offense. She had 24 points and four assists. She was seven for seven from the free throw line, seven for 10 from the field, and three for five from three. She played for 37 minutes and ran the Regals offense.

Danielle Morgan put up eight points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Karina McMillan was right beside her with eight points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Sara Mills remained active in the offense and contributed with eight points, three assists, three rebounds, and one block.

Every Regal that stepped foot on the court tonight contributed to their 80-point score. Overall the Regals shot 49.1-percent from the field, 70.4-percent from the free throw line, and 35.7-percent from three.

The Purple and Gold hit the road Saturday to take on Pomona-Pitzer at 7 pm.
