Regals Back on the Court

Regals Back on the Court

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The California Lutheran University women's basketball team is back on the court and preparing for the 2021-22 season.

Under Head Coach Kelli DiMuro, the Regals are looking to make some noise in the SCIAC and on the Division III level.

Roster | Schedule

The Regals open the season at home and get things started with Willamette (Ore.) on Tuesday, November 23rd, at 5 p.m.

Your team saw five games last year, what did that do for you and the team?
Those five games contributed to the chemistry of our team, and gave the newcomers a chance to acclimate themselves to our program and the Cal Lutheran community. We were lucky to have played, although we had some injuries, we played through some adversity and long practices outside, making us a much tougher and resilient team.

What can you tell us about the returning class, which Regals should we be looking out for?
Seniors Mackenzy Iwahashi and Cameron Mallory have been working extremely hard in the off season, coming in ready and in the best shape of their four years here. I am impressed with their dedication and commitment to the winning mentality we want to project upon the underclassmen. This is a great show of leadership and desire. Our sophomores Aliya DiMuro, Naomi Gipson, Grace Godines, and Alyssa Maxey continue to bring a scoring threat inside and outside, along with size and strength.

Then you have the incoming class, what can you tell us about them?
The incoming class has an exceptional work ethic. They are all dedicated and committed to getting in the gym and being proactive with their strength and conditioning. We are extremely excited to start practice and bring all this talent together.

What are your thoughts on the schedule, which games should fans watch out for?
We have a tough schedule where we are traveling to play high level Division III competition in Portland and Las Vegas and of course the SCIAC conference always brings great talent. The games to watch will be against the reigning champions Redlands, along with Claremont Mudd Scripps and Pomona Pitzer.

How much excitement does the team have for the 2021-22 season?
The women have been waiting for this season for a long time and the coaching staff is extremely excited to get in the gym and start building a championship season. The expectations are high and the excitement is rising with the anticipation of beginning practice on October 15th.
