Kingsmen, William Jessup Comes Down to Final Point as Warriors Escape with Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The dual came down to the final point as Cal Lutheran men's tennis was outlasted by William Jessup 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Cal Lutheran scored the first point of the dual as the teams started with doubles play. Parker McBride and Aaron Moylan got the Kingsmen on the board as they won 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. 

William Jessup fired back and took the other two doubles points and the lead. Darvel Lossangoye and Jacob de la Paz fell 8-7 at the No. 1 and Cade Haffner and Rainy Wei lost 8-5 at the No. 2.

The Kingsmen tied the match at 2-2 as singles play started. McBride won quickly at the No. 2 spot with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Cal Lutheran then took the lead as Moylan won 6-1, 7-5, at the No. 5 spot. 

The Warriors took the lead back as they claimed the No. 4 and 6 spots. Wei fell 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 4 and Haffner was defeated 6-4, 2-6, 6-10, at the No. 6. 

The match was tied at 4-4 as Lossangoye took the No. 1 spot. He claimed the point, going the distance, with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. It all came down to the No. 3 spot and de la Paz came up just short as he was defeated 7-6 (6), 3-6, 5-10.

The Kingsmen have the Pacific Coast Doubles before jumping back into duals. The Pacific Coast Doubles is Thursday through Sunday. The next dual is at home as Cal Lutheran hosts Vassar (N.Y.) on Tuesday, March 7, at 2 p.m.
