Kingsmen Battle D1, #8 Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's volleyball battled Division I, and No. 8 in the nation, Pepperdine on Saturday night. The Waves took down the Kingsmen with scores of 16-25, 19-25, 22-25.

Taylor Marks kept the offense moving and dished out 20 assists. He added four kills, three digs, and one block assist. 

Ben Weber led the attack with six kills and Logan Marks and Borys Horiuk had four kills each. Noah Rigo and Jake Tucker were next with three kills each.

Sean Fitzpatrick had the most digs and recorded four. Horiuk was big at the net with two block and also served three aces. 

The Kingsmen got better as the match went on, improving against the tough, Division I opponent. The Waves cruised through the first set and took the early match lead. Down 11-7 in the second set, the Kingsmen went on a 4-0 run and tied it up. Cal Lutheran continued to put Pepperdine to the test as the Waves took a 2-0 match lead. 

Cal Lutheran scared Pepperdine in the third set. Down 8-4, the Kingsmen scored six straight points and went up 10-8. T. Marks had back-to-back kills and Horiuk served back-to-back aces. The Division I team took over after that and won the match in three.

The Kingsmen have one more game in their season. Cal Lutheran hosts Moorpark at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day.
