Kingsmen Take First Set, No. 11 North Central Claims Match

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's volleyball gave No. 11 North Central a scare, taking the first set, but then fell in four on Thursday night. Scores of the match were 26-24, 12-25, 18-25, 17-25. 

The loss drops the Kingsmen to 8-6 on the year. Cal Lutheran and North Central will rematch on Saturday at the Cal Lutheran Invitational. 

In the first set, the score was tied 10 times before the Kingsmen went up 16-13. The Cardinals fired back with a four-point as they tried to steal momentum. The teams exchanged the points over the next little bit and the set was knotted at 24-24. The Kingsmen ended the first set with back-to-back kills from Borys Horiuk and Ben Weber

North Central fired back and took the second and third set. The Kingsmen needed to win the fourth to force a fifth set. The Cardinals opened the fifth set determined to end it in four and went up 10-5. North Central kept the points coming and continued to increase their lead to 13-6. The Cardinals never took their foot off the gas and won the set and the match. 

Leading the way for Cal Lutheran was Weber with 11 kills. Taylor Marks kept the offense going with 34 assists, Sean Fitzpatrick had six digs and Horiuk had five total blocks. 

The Kingsmen look to get back in the win column on Friday night. Cal Lutheran takes on Benedictine (IL) with first serve set for 7 p.m.
