ASHLAND, Va. — Cal Lutheran men's volleyball swept Roanoke, but fell to Marymount (Va.) in five set on Saturday afternoon on day two of the R-MC Invitational.

The Kingsmen opened day two on fire and took down Roanoke 25-18, 25-17, 25-21. The second match of the day was a nail biter as the Kingsmen came up just short 27-25, 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 13-15.

The Kingsmen made quick work of the Maroons as Ben Weber hit with a .353-percentage, on his way to 10 kills. Taylor Marks kept the offense moving with 26 assist, Sean Fitzpatrick had eight digs to lead the defense and Noah Rigo had three block assists. 

With the first set tied at 9-9, Cal Liutheran used a 9-3 run to take the lead and the set. The Kingsmen scored the first eight points of the second set, and went up 13-1, as they cruised to a two set lead. Down 15-12 in the third, the Kingsmen turned things around with six straight points, took the lead, and swept the Maroons.

Weber led the way with 21 kills and Jake Tucker added 14. T. Marks recorded 44 assists, Fitzpatrick had 12 digs and Borys Horiuk had five total blocks. 

Every set was decided by three-or-less points as the teams battled until the very end. Down 25-24 in the first, the Kingsmen recorded three straight points to take the first set. Up 22-21 in the second, Cal Lutheran scored three of the next four points and grabbed the second set. 

After the Saints took the third and fourth set, it all came down to the fifth. With the score knotted up at 11-11, it was Marymount that had the final say and stole the fifth set and the match. 

The Kingsmen return home after being away for the past month. Cal Lutheran will take on Saint Katherine on Thursday at 7 p.m.
