Kingsmen Can’t Overcome 0-2 Deficit to Nazareth

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —  Cal Lutheran men's volleyball got into an early hole that it couldn't overcome and was defeated 3-1 by Nazareth on Monday afternoon. Scores of the match were 25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25.

Ben Weber recorded a team-high 13 kills and Jake Tucker was next with 10. Borys Horiuk and Noah Rigo were next with eight kills. Rigo had a match-high eight total blocks and Horiuk had four. Taylor Marks showed off an all-around game with six kills, 15 assists, 11 digs, one block, and one ace. 

Each set was competitive and went back-and-forth. Down 18-15 in the first set, the Kingsmen fought back and tied the match at 18. The score continued to be tied all the way to 25 when Nazareth scored two straight and took a 1-0 match lead. 

The Golden Flyers took the second set and the Kingsmen fired back to win the third. With the score tied at 17 in set three, Cal Lutheran scored three straight and got breathing room. Horiuk and Rigo recorded a kill during the run. They hung on and took set three. 

It gave the Kingsmen life as they looked to push the match to five. Cal Lutheran was in set four the whole way, but Nazareth pulled out the win in the end.  

The Kingsmen got better as the game progressed. They had an attack percentage of .188 in the first and .242 in the second. They had their best percentage in the third and hit .441, but followed it up with .100 in the fourth. 

The Kingsmen are back in action on Saturday and host Ottawa on Saturday at 1 p.m.
