Kingsmen Honors Seniors Before Redlands

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's basketball honored seniors Jacob Alonzo, Charlie Lee, Dallas Johnson, Mason Johnson and Brooks Mallory before the Kingsnen played the University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won the contest 70-69.

The seniors totaled 52 of the 69 points scored. M. Johnson led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds, Alonzo added 14 points, eight assists and six rebounds and D, Jonhnson had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

The game remained close in a few statistical categories as the Kingsmen had 17 turnovers and the Bulldogs had 15. Cal Lutheran only had nine second chance points and eight fastbreak while the Bulldogs had six and 17, respectively.

The Kingsmen led for most of the game, leading with 3-2, and all the way into the second half. Every time Cal Lutheran would make a run, the Bulldogs did the same.

To start the second half, with the Purple and Gold up 43-40, the senior duo of Lee and Mallory drilled back-to-back three pointers and took a 49-40 lead.

Cal Lutheran was up double-digits most of the second half, but Redlands always made a quiet run, slowly cutting into the deficit.

The Bulldogs made it all the way back and made a layup, while being followed, made the free throw, and went up 70-69 with 4.6 seconds left.

A deep three at the buzzer gave Redlands a hard-earned win.

The Kingsmen have two more games on the road before the postseason starts. Cal Lutheran is at Clarmeont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
