THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Jacob Alonzo filled up the stat sheet with 21 points, 14 assists, seven rebounds and five steals to lead California Lutheran University men's basketball past the Caltech Beavers 88-64 on Wednesday night.
It was Alonzo's second double-double of the year. He has recorded 10-plus points and 5-plus in assists, rebounds and steals four times. He has also tallied five-plus steals six times.
Desi Burrage added 15 points and 11 more Kingsmen scored. It was a total team effort as nine Kingsmen scored five or more points.
The defense was just as good as the offense as the Purple and Gold forced the Beavers into 24 turnovers. The Kingsmen scored 25 points off turnovers while only committed seven of their own.
Cal Lutheran's bench showed out and outscored Caltech 48-15. The Kingamen shot 47.6-percent from the field and 90.5-percent from the free throw line (19-21).
The Kingsmen jumped out to a huge lead to start the game and were up 19-7 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Beavers closed the gap as Cal Lutheran had a 32-25 lead at the break.
The Beavers continued to cut into the deficit to start the second half, until the Kingsmen turned it on. Up 43-37, Cal Lutheran went on an 11-3 run and pushed their lead to double-digits. The Kingsnen kept the pressure on and were up 20 (62-42) with 9:16 left in the game.
The Kingsmen never looked back and took the game as they closed in on a top-four seed in the conference.
Cal Lutheran has their final home game of the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Kingsmen host Redlands on senior day.
