Kingsmen Hit Century Mark, Dominate Leopards

LA VERNE, Calif. — Thirteen Kingsmen scored as California Lutheran University men's basketball went to La Verne and blew out the Leopards 100-76 on Monday night. 

The Kingsmen improved to 7-4 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 14-5 overall. The Purple and Gold sit comfortably in the No. 4 spot with four games to go, but have their sights set on a higher seed.

Cal Lutheran was efficient all over the floor shooting 59.3-percent from the field, 57.7-percent from behind the three-point line and 83.3-percent from the free throw line.  

Four Kingsmen scored in double-digits led by Mason Johnson with 20, Tommy Griffitts with 18, Devon Lewis with 12 and Jacob Alonzo with 10. Alonzo recorded a team-high eight assists and two steals while Griffitts had a team-high eight rebounds. 

Cal Lutheran made 15 three-pointers in the game as 10 Kingsmen hit from deep. On tip of Alonzo, M. Johnson and Lewis, Charlie Lee, Ryan Grande, Logan McCullough, Brock Susko, Desi Burrage, Brooks Mallory and Jacob Martin all contributed to the 57.7-percent mark. 

The game was never in question as the Kingsmen jumped out to 16-3 lead in the first six minutes. Cal Lutheran continued to build its lead and was up 25-9 with 9:46 left in the half. La Verne chipped away at the lead slightly as CLU had a 45-33 advantage at the half. 

The Kingsmen poured it on in the second half, hit the century mark for the second time this season and won handedly against the Leopards. 

The Kingsmen return home after three games on the road and host Caltech on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
