Panthers Use Second-Half Run to Get Past Kingsmen

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.Mason Johnson scored 25 points, but it wasn't enough as California Lutheran University men's basketball fell to Chapman 93-75 on Saturday afternoon.

The score was 42-39 at the half, with the Kingsmen nipping at the heels. The Panthers scored 51 second-half points, with their largest lead being 22, as they gave Cal Lutheran its first loss of the season.

The Panthers outshot the Kingsmen with a field goal percentage of 58.1-percent (36-62) to 44.8 (26-58), and then from three-point range 44.1 (15-34) to 23.5 (4-17).

Johnson was 8-of-17 from the field, and 9-of-10 from the free throw line, scoring 20-plus points for the fifth time this season. He added six rebounds and two steals.

Tommy Griffitts went 9-for-10 from the field for 18 points, with six rebounds and an assist, steal and block. Desi Burrage and Jacob Alonzo both chipped in with nine. Alonzo had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.

The Kingsmen (7-1, 1-1 SCIAC) have two exhibitions next, both against Division I teams, before jumping back into their regular season games. Cal Lutheran is at UC Santa Barbara tomorrow for a game at 1 p.m.
