Kingsmen Deliver Double-Digit Win; Johnson Scores 21 Points

Pasadena, Calif. – The Kingsmen hit the road Wednesday night in hopes of getting back into rhythm after two back-to-back tough games. They made their way to face the Caltech Beavers and walked away with the 81-64 win. 

It was a tight first half between the two. Both teams were able to convert on the offensive side which allowed them to stay close. The Kingsmen entered the half with a 38-35 lead.

The Purple and Gold forced 11 turnovers in the first half alone. Seven Kingsmen put up points in the first 20 minutes and they were 12-14 from the free throw line as a whole.

The Beavers came out fast in the second half and immediately tied it up. The Purple and Gold were not phased and quickly gained a 10-point lead five minutes into the second half.

The scoring continued to go back and forth but the with just over six minutes to go, the Kingsmen had a comfortable 15-point lead. The Beavers were unable to make a comeback and the Kingsmen steadily pulled away with the win.

Mason Johnson was the leading on both sides of the court with 21 points. He had an additional four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Jacob Alonzo was right behind Johnson with 17 points. Alonzo continued to dominate the court and gathered a team-high six rebounds and four assists.

Tommy Griffitts was the third Kingsmen to score in double digits. He contributed another two offensive rebounds and three defensive rebounds.

Miles Houston added to the mix with nine points, three rebounds, and one steal. Five more Kingsmen put up points to finish off the scoring.

The Purple and Gold shot 46.3-percent from the field and went 25-31 from the free throw line.

The Kingsmen return to Gilbert Arena on Wednesday the 26th to host La Verne at 7 pm.
