Kingsmen Set for 2018 Campaign

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The California Lutherans men's track and field team has a good cast of returners, 16, and welcomes 15 newcomers, as the Kingsmen look to compete for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship.

The team has senior leadership, but also has a young core that is ready to go and show what they can do.

The team will look to six seniors. The class is looking to make its mark on the program and the SCIAC. It includes Timmy Kahovec, Josiah Le Doux-Hayes, Corey Lee, Wendell O'Brien, Christian Rider and Zachary Sergey.

In 2017, Kahovec earned All-West Region accolades. He also received All-SCIAC honors as he finished third in the 800-meter run. He currently ranks second on Cal Lutheran's Top-10 List for the 800-meters.

O'Brien received All-West Region honors for his performance in the 4x100-meter relay. He helped CLU get fifth at the SCIAC Championships in the 4x100-meter relay and was sixth in the 100-meter run.

The junior class is looking for more roles in 2018 and is made up of Rigoberto Baza Carillo, Dillon Brown, Anthony Flores, Jerome Hull, Peter Lee, Nakai McGowan Smith, Michael Miller, Trent Mosley, Christian Rivers and Jordan Wiley.

Baza Carillo ranks eighth on the Kingsmen's Top-10 List for 3,000-meters with a time of nine minutes and 13.55 seconds. Brown earned All-SCIAC honors in his first year competing in the triple jump. He also ranks sixth on the Cal Lutheran's Top-10 List.

New to the team from the junior class are transfers Flores (Oxnard, Calif.), McGowan Smith (San Jose, Calif.), Mosley (Sharon, Penn.) and Rivers (Simi Valley, Calif.).

The sophomore class continues to grow in Cal Lutheran's system. Looking to step up is Chris Brodnax, Obasi Dees, Henry Friederichs, Dallas Knapp, Michael McNeely, Connor Richter and Tyler Tvelia.

Brodnax earned All-West Regions honors for his performance with the 4x100-meter relay team. He placed fourth in the 400-meter run at the SCIAC Track & Field Championships. Dees joined Brodnax on the All-West Region Team for the 4x100-meter relay.

The freshman class competing for the Violet and Gold is made up of Nikita Khromets (Tarzana, Calif.), Amir King (Las Vegas, Nev.), Manuel Marquez (Oxnard, Calif.), Jack Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.), Connor Neufeld-Griffin (Portland, Ore.), Leo Perales Jr. (Van Nuys, Calif.), Aaron Rider (Anaheim, Calif.) and Reece Smith (Oak Park, Calif.).

The Kingsmen begin the season Saturday in Claremont, Calif., as they compete in the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All Comers at 10:30 a.m.
