REDLANDS, Calif. — The California Lutheran men's track and field team was the runner-up in eight events at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet No. 1 which was hosted by Caltech at Redlands' Ashel Cunningham Track. The meet also included Caltech, Redlands and Whittier.
Cal Lutheran's Obasi Dees and Timmy Kahovec led the Kingsmen. Both men finished as the runner-up in two events.
Dees was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.83 seconds. He broke into the CLU record books as his time tied for the ninth best in school history. He also placed second in the 200-meter dash with 22.03.
Kahovec was the runner-up in the 800- and 1,500-meter run. He clocked in at 1:56.87 for the second-place finish in the 800-meter run. Connor Neufeld-Griffin was right behind him in third at 1:59.83. In the 1,500-meter run, Kahovec finished with a time of 4:07.01.
Rigoberto Baza Carillo, Anthony Flores and Dallas Knapp were the runner-up in their perspective events. Baza Carillo raced in the 5,000-meter run and finished at 16:07.95. Knapp competed in the 400-meter dash and clocked a time of 50.10.
Flores was second in the hammer throw with 38.90 meters. He also competed in the discus throw and the shot put. In the discus, he threw 31.91 meters and finished fourth. For the shot put, his distance was 9.72 meters and good for fifth.
Dillon Brown turned in two top-three performances for the Violet and Gold. He was third in the long jump with 6.29 meters and third in the triple jump with 13.40 meters.
For relays, the team of Chris Brodnax, Dees, Knapp and Wendell O'Brien finished second with a time of 42.91.
The Kingsmen continue the season Saturday, March 10, at the Oxy Distance Carnival in Los Angeles.
