Kingsmen Finish Sixth at Rossi Relays; Kahovec Breaks CLU Record

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran men's track and field team placed sixth at the 21st Annual Rossi Relays Invitational hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Burns Track Complex on Saturday, Feb. 24.

One of the top performances of the day came from Timmy Kahovec, who ran a blistering time of 8:50.13 to place 22nd overall in the 3000m in his track and field debut. His time wiped the record books as is now first in CLU history for that event.

Rigoberto Baza Carillo ran his way back into the CLU record books with a time of 9:07.68 in the 3000m, good for sixth all-time in school history. Nikita Khromets ran a time of 9:27.72 in the event while Zachary Sergey (9:34.16), Christian Rider (9:37.16) and Michael Miller (9:41.01) rounded out the top Kingsmen finishers.

In the 100 meter dash, Obasi Dees finished third with a 10.86 time while Peter Lee (12.08), Leo Perales Jr. (12.29) and Michael McNeely (12.47) finished for the Kingsmen.

In the jumps, Dillon Brown came through with the top performance in the high jump, landing a 6.74m jump to finish second in the long jump and placed fourth in the triple jump with 13.47m. Corey Lee landed a 5.27m jump in long jump and a 11.37m in the triple jump.

Anthony Flores and Manuel Marquez paced the Violet and Gold in the throwing events with Flores leading the Kingsmen in discuss with a 31.69m throw while Marquez threw 29.60m. Marquez also led CLU in hammer throw with 25.88m landing him sixteenth in the event.

Rounding out the day was the distance medley team who ran a time of 10:27.98 placing them second overall while the 4x100s relay team finished first with a time of 41.98.

Cal Lutheran will now begin Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 1 meet this Saturday, Mar. 4 against at Redlands.
