THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Mia Onesto delivered 2-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning in game two and California Lutheran University softball took down the Carnegie Mellon Tartans 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon. The Tartans won the first game of the doubleheader 16-15.

Mia Garcia got the game two win as she rolled through the Tartans lineup. She pitched 6.0 innings, while striking out two, giving up just seven hits and two earned runs.

The Regals scored one run in each of the first four innings, but found themselves tied heading to the fifth.

Onesto had the clutch hit and Cal Lutheran had a 6-4 lead after five innings. Garcia took care of the rest, with great plays coming from the defense behind her, and the Regals picked up a hard-fought win.

Onesto had three RBI in the game and Hanna Booth and Makayla Lopez each added one. Both recorded two doubles while Onesto and Natalie Luna both added one.

In a marathon game one, the teams combined for 38 hits and 31 runs. The scoring came in bunches and the Regals got it started as Booth connected on a three-run home run in the first. Cal Lutheran got five runs in the first and six in the second to take a commanding lead.

The Tartans slowly crept back into the game. Carnegie Mellon put up three runs in the fourth and fifth and then tallied nine runs in the sixth. They held on in the ninth as the Regals cut the lead to one run, but were ultimately denied.

Booth, Ashley Membrere and Onesto each had three hits in the game. Booth led the Regals with four RBI and Onesto, Lopez and Luna each had two. Onesto recorded a triple and Regan Laubscher had a double.

The Regals stay home and host Texas-Dallas on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon.
