Regals Battle Whitworth In Friday Afternoon Showdown

Thousand Oaks, Calif. – Regals softball hosted Whitworth for a two-game Friday afternoon. They were neck and neck in the first losing just 5-4. It got away from the Regals in the second game and Whitworth walked away with the 11-2 win.

The first inning started with a 0-0 score as both teams were finding their rhythm. The Pirates batted two runners home in the top of the second giving them the 2-0 go ahead. They silenced the Regals in the bottom of the second and scored an additional two runs in the top of the third. The Regals fought back and crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 2-4.

Whitworth snuck another one past them in the top of the fifth but the Regals kept fighting until the very end. The Purple and Gold went on a two-run offensive streak before the Pirates defense ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Mia Onesto had two hits for the Regals and tallied two RBIs. Right behind her with two hits and one RBI was Regan Laubscher.

After a quick 20-minute turn around the Regals took the field with a hot offensive start in the first inning. The Pirates batted in two runs right off the bat but the Regals retaliated quickly with two runs of their own. Makayla Lopez led the Regals with three hits and one RBI.

Ariana Mendoza put up the other RBI for the Purple and gold while Onesto and Laubscher contributed with one hit each in the second game.

The first game's fight tired the Regals out and Whitworth ran away with it for the rest of the second game.

They return to Hutton Field on Monday to host Pacific Lutheran.
