Regals Unable To Upset No. 3 Redlands

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Regals hosted No. 3 Redlands for a double header on Hutton Field. The Purple and Gold were outlasted 12-6 in the first game and almost took the second game from the Bulldogs but weren't able to get the upset as they lost 4-3.

The game started with a run from Redlands in the top of the first but the Regals answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Hanna Booth singled to left field to score two runners. The Regals ended inning one with the 2-1 lead.

The scoring picked back up in the bottom of the third for the Purple and Gold. Booth sent one up the middle to send Ashley Membrere across home plate. Regan Laubscher loaded the bases and sent Ari Mendoza home with her single through the left side. The Regals had the 4-2 lead heading into the fifth.

The Bulldogs got into a rhythm in the fifth inning and went on a seven-run streak. Entering the sixth the Purple and Gold were down 12-4.

The Regals tallied another run in the bottom of the sixth as Mia Onesto grounded out to short stop, scoring Natalie Luna in the process. The Purple and Gold tried to stay in it but their scoring ended in the bottom of the seventh. Laubscher sent one down the left field line recording a triple and scoring Emily Blank.

Game one ended in favor of the Bulldogs 12-6.

The beginning of game two was exactly the same as game one. The Bulldogs got an early run in the top of the first but the Regals retaliated with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Booth got in the mix again as she forced an error on the Bulldog's short stop with a hard ground ball. This got her to first and Onesto home.

Laubscher followed up Booth with a single down the left field line, scoring Makayla Lopez and putting the Purple and Gold up 2-1.

The scoring went silent until the top of the fifth when Redlands put three runs on the board. The Regals also put one on the board in the fifth with a SAC fly from Booth, sending Lopez home. This brought the score to 4-3 in Redlands favor.

The Regals held them in the top of the sixth and seventh, setting themselves up for a walk-off opportunity.

Makayla Lopez was in scoring position for the Purple and Gold but the batters to follow were unable to find the holes in the Bulldog's defense, resulting in a one-run deficit to end the game.

Madison Gunn pitched all seven innings in the first game while Taryn Faull and Sammy Edmonds split the second on. Faull pitched for 4.2 innings while Edmonds finished off the last 2.1.

The Regals travel on Friday to Occidental for another three game series.
