Regals Drop Double Header to Conference Leading Chapman

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University softball hosted the SCIAC leading Chapman Panthers in a double header at Hutton Stadium to open their weekend series. The Panthers would take the victory in both games by a score of 8-0 to lay claim to the series on day one.

In the opening game, both teams made it out of the first inning unscathed. That would change in the second where the Panthers were able to load the bases leading to two runs scored on hit batters before a double to right center brought in three more for a 5-0 lead.

Chapman would ad an RBI single in the third, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and a solo home run in the fifth to reach the final of 8-0.

The Regals best sign of offense came from freshman Amanda Gull who doubled to left center in the bottom of the third, but the Regals were unable to capitalize.

The second game saw a similar start to the first as the Panthers were able to score their first run when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Regals Starter Taryn Faull was able to get of out the jam in the first allowing just the one run.

Chapman picked up a two run single in the top of the second and two more runs in the third inning on a double with an error and a RBI single to run the score to 3-0.

Cal Lutheran freshman Mia Garcia entered the game to pinch hit in the third and immediately singled. Madison Gunn would then reach base on a fielder's choice, but she would be stranded at the end of the inning. This left the Regals down 0-5 after the Panthers picked up two more runs in the top of the third.

The Regal's saw another opportunity when sophomore Regan Laubscher smacked a two out single down the left field line to advance Madison Gull who had reached base on a walk. A pop up would then end the threat while the Panthers extended their lead to 7-0 in the inning.

One more Chapman run in the top of the fifth and a scoreless bottom of the inning for the Regals gave the Panthers the 8-0 win.

The Regals will travel to Orange, CA to play the third game of the weekend series against the Panthers tomorrow, Saturday the 5th at 12:00pm.
