Regals Late Comeback Falls Short

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran University Softball pushed the University of La Verne Leopards to the brink with a late game comeback. The Regals' late game effort came up just short in a 5-6 loss.

The Leopards came out swinging, scoring 4 runs in the first inning.

After the first, the Regal and starting pitcher Taryn Faull settled in and allowed just 2 more runs in the game.

Cal Lutheran got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Natalie Luna singled up the right side to score catcher Hanna Booth. The scoring continued when Hannah Mosesian hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Emily Blank to score.

A 2 run home run in the fifth put La Verne up 6-2.

As time was running out, Emily Blank, who was 3-3 on the game, hit a 2 run homer to bring the score to 4-6.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Cal Lutheran used some patient at bats to load the bases and then score when Natalie Luna walked to drive in Makayla Lopez.

A strike out ended the game with the bases loaded and the Regals down 5-6.

Cal Lutheran looks to take the late game momentum into the rest of the weekend series with games on Saturday at 12pm and 2pm.
