Final Result Never in Doubt as Kingsmen Sweep The Masters

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. —California Lutheran University Men's Volleyball team hosted the Mustangs of The Master's University tonight. The Kingsmen took the match in three sets that were never in doubt. The final scores of 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 only begin to show the control the Kingsmen had of the match.

The first set saw the Mustang's 7 kills beat the Kingsmen's 6. Despite fewer kills, Cal Lutheran was able to use heavy serves and an intimidating block to force their opponents into errors. The Kingsmen rode those errors to an easy 25-16 win.

The Cal Lutheran offense started to really find their groove in the second set. The Kingsmen picked up 10 kills while still holding the Mustangs to a .000 hitting percentage. The Kingsmen also scored 4 points on blocks, easily out earning their opponents. The Kingsmen's serving and improved offensive output gave them an easy 25-19 win in set 2.

The third set saw both teams able to stay in system a bit more which made for lots of competition at the net. The Mustangs were able to out kill the Kingsmen 13-12, but the difference was the Kingsmen defense. Cal Lutheran had 5 blocks in the set and the back row made great plays that frustrated the Mustangs into errors. The Kingsmen's .321 hitting percentage and great defensive work led to a 25-21 final score and a 3-0 sweep in the match.

Cal Lutheran's offense was led by senior Sean Fitzpatrick's 10.5 total points. Sophomore's Jake Tucker and Dylan Schreibfeder added 6 and 4 kills respectively. Graduate setter Seamus McDonagh dished out 18 assists while running the Kingsmen offense.

The Kingsmen picked up 13 blocks, led by Dylan Schreibfeder's 7 block assists and freshman middle Boris Horiuk's 6 block assists.

Senior libero Eli Moore had 11 digs in the match including picking up a number of hard driven balls and some diving saves that helped the Kingsmen maintain control of the match.

The Kingsmen will be making the long trip to Arlington, Virginia to play Marymount University on Thursday at 4:00pm.
