Kingsmen Win Streak Snapped by Royals

FULLERTON, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's volleyball saw its three-match win streak come to an end as the Kingsmen lost to Hope International on Wednesday night. Scores of the match were 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-.21. 

The loss dropped the Kingsmen to 8-5 while the NAIA for moved to 4-5. 

It was a team effort from the Kingsmen as Sean Fitzpatrick, Dylan Schreibfeder, Jake Tucker and Ben Weber all recorded eight kills. 

It was a tough match, hitting-wise, as Cal Lutheran had a hitting percentage of .148. They hit .250 in the second set and under .200 in the other three. 

Tucker and Schreibfeder were joined by Borys Horiuk with three blocks each. Eli Moore led the team with 19 digs and Taylor Marks had 21 assists. 

After falling in the first two sets, the Kingsmen had some ground to make up. Cal Lutheran got that hard work started as they took the third set. 

Down 8-6, the Kingsmen rattled off 10 straight points to take a 16-8 lead. Cal Lutheran had a comeback in mind as the match went to a fourth set. It got off to a rough start as Hope International went up 6-1. The Purple and Gold could not recover and fell to the Royals.

The Kingsmen look to get back in the win column on Friday. Cal Lutheran host Ottawa University on Friday at 7 p.m.
