Kingsmen Take on Div. I, #5 UC Santa Barbara in 0-3 Loss

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — California Lutheran University men's volleyball took on the challenge of facing the Division I, #5 in the nation Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara tonight. The Kingsmen played well, but the Gauchos came away with the 3 set victory 25-20, 25-17, 25-10.

The Kingsmen out hit UCSB in the first set, racking up 11 kills to their opponent's 9. Despite the strong offensive start for Cal Lutheran, the Gauchos were able to gain a 15-11 lead. UCSB was able to hold that lead for the rest of the set and finish with a 25-20 win.

The second set started with the Kingsmen scoring point for point with the Gauchos to a 12-12 score. UC Santa Barbara started to edge away after that by limiting errors and out killing the Kingsmen in the set. The Gauchos rode that momentum to a 25-17 set 2 win.

The Gauchos totaled 13 kills and 0 hitting errors to take control of the third set. The Kingsmen back row picked up 7 digs in the set, but were not able to transition into offense from there. UCSB used their strong attack to claim the set 25-10 and the match 3-0.

The Kingsmen were led out of the middle by freshman Borys Horiuk's 7 kills and .636 hitting percentage. Outside hitters Sean Fitzpatrick and Logan Marks added 7 and 6 kills respectively.

The Kingsmen will be back at home for a rematch with Marymount University on Tuesday at 8:00pm.
