Nybo Wins 200 Individual Medley; Brewer Adds All-SCIAC

COMMERCE, Calif.— Andreas Nybo swam to the gold in the 200-yard individual medley and teammate Ben Brewer snagged third in the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Cal Lutheran men's swim and dive team on day two of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.

Day two consisted of the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and the 200-freestyle relay. The Kingsmen remain fourth after the events and are fourth with 253 points.

Breaking his own SCIAC record, Nybo flew to the finish line with a time of one minute and 49.27 seconds. He is the first SCIAC Champion this year for the Kingsmen as he earned All-SCIAC.

"It was a fantastic session for the men," said head coach Barry Schreifels. "Andreas led the way with the new team record in the 200 IM, a NCAA qualifying time, fourth fastest time in the country and a new conference meet record. All across the board, we had big time drops."

Brewer made it two Kingsmen on the podium as he cruised to a third place finish, earning All-SCIAC status. He touched in at 4:28.59, just missing his program record in the 500 free by two seconds.

The Kingsmen continued to put up the points as Liam McCallum and Nick Kenny competed in the 50 free. McCallum just missed the podium and took fourth with 20.95 seconds. Kenny kept close to his teammate and snagged sixth with 20.99. The duo moved up in the CLU record books with the fourth and sixth fastest time, respectively.

The Kingsmen claimed two more races as the Purple and Gold won the consolation races in the 500 free and the 200 IM. Miles Gaitan recorded the second fastest time in program history and raced to the win in the race and 10th overall with 1:52.78.

Cole Weiderman had the fourth fastest time for the 500 free and clocked in at 4:35.53, also winning his event and placing 10th

The 200 free relay closed the night and consisted of an A and B finals heat. The team of Kye Daniels, Kenny, McCallum and Luke Rodarte came in fourth with a time of 1:23.60 while Gaitan, Oliver Grant-ChapmanAndrew Meneses and Weiderman placed 13th with 1:27.31.
