Brewer, Nybo, Rodarte Named to Division III All-America Team by CSCAA

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO –Ben Brewer, Andreas Nybo and Luke Rodarte were selected to the CSCAA Division III All-America team after they were chosen will represent the Kingsmen of Cal Lutheran at the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships.

In a statement from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the criteria for the national recognition was changed due to the unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19:

"The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) selected its Division III All-American team.  Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship, the CSCAA Board adjusted the selection criteria for each Division.  In Division III, selections are based upon those individuals and relays selected to the championship and are members of the CSCAA," (CSCAA Release)

Unfortunately for the talented trio, COVID-19 concerns caused the national meet to be canceled. However, Brewer, Nybo and Rodarte were still honored for their outstanding seasons of competition that landed them among the nation's best.

Senior Ben Brewer was chosen to compete in two different events at the national meet. The San Francisco, Calif. native would have competed in the 500-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle and the 400-yard IM at the Division III Swimming and Diving Championships Brewer won the 1,650-free at the SCIAC Championships and broke a school record with his time of 15:29.53.

Earning SCIAC Swimmer of the Year honors was Andreas Nybo (Portola, Valley, Calif.). The junior was selected to represent Cal Lutheran in the 200-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships. Nybo enjoyed a fantastic 2020 campaign where he was victorious in the 200-fly at the SCIAC Championships. He shattered his own school record with his time of 1:47.49 and helped lead the Kingsmen to a third-place finish at the meet.

Accompanying Brewer and Nybo on the list is newcomer Luke Rodarte, hailing from Truckee, Calif. The sophomore burst onto the scene in his first year at Cal Lutheran, taking the SCIAC by storm in the 200-yard breaststroke. Rodarte would have competed in the 100-breast and 200-breast on the national stage after taking gold in the 100-breast at the SCIAC Championships with his record-breaking time of 53.87.
