Experienced Kingsmen Prepare for 2019-20 Season

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– Returning a multitude of swimmers from last year's squad, California Lutheran University men's swimming and diving team prepares for the 2019-20 season with much experience and a few incoming student-athletes who will look to make an impact in their first season.

Head Coach Barry Schreifels returns for his second season at the helm of the swimming and diving program as he hopes to build upon the success achieved a year ago. He brings along two assistant coaches in their first year working in the Violet and Gold: Alex Card and Hayley Blaauw.

Cal Lutheran brings back 14 returners for the new season, as an experienced team attempts to lead the team this season.

Headlining the senior class will be Ben Brewer who has reached the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in all three seasons at CLU. The senior competed in all 11 events last season and closed his season with a 19th-place in the 1650-free.

Thomas Hamburger also brings his senior leadership to the pool as he had a very good senior year, turning in multiple season-bests throughout the season and performed well at the SCIAC Championships.

Rounding out the senior class is Liam McCallum, a two-time All-SCIAC selection. His experience will prove to be invaluable to the younger Kingsmen as he has received All-Conference honors in the 800-free relay, 400-free relay (twice) and the 200-free relay.

A talented junior class looks to provide more support to the team, starting with Andreas Nybo, who has achieved NCAA Division III All-American honors in the 200-fly and the 100-breast. The junior is also a SCIAC Individual Champion in the 200-fly and an All-SCIAC selection in the 800-free relay, 200-IM, 100-breast and 200-fly.

Completing the talented junior class is Stephen Blaauw, Brandon Alvarez, Kye Daniels and Nick Kenny who will look to put their skills on display.

The sophomores look to build upon a fantastic freshman campaign. Nathan March made quite the impact in his first year in the Violet and Gold and well as Justin Krause. The strong class also includes the stellar squad of Brenden Fuggles, Miles Gaitan, Vincent Hemingway, Winston Hewes and Andrew Meneses.

The Kingsmen will welcome freshmen Zane Booth, Henry Crouch, Chasen Dubs, Oliver Grant-Chapman, Joshua Nekoba, Reid Shorten and Cole Weiderman looking to make an impact in their first season with the team.

The Kingsmen being their season Oct. 11-12 at the Malibu Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University, looking to start the new year on a high note.
