Rodarte Wins 100 Breast; Nybo, 400 Medley Relay Team Earn All-SCIAC

COMMERCE, Calif.— Luke Rodarte grabbed gold in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Andreas Nybo (100 fly) and the 400-yard medley relay team turned in runner up performances during day three of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.

The three All-SCIAC accolades for the Kingsmen helped them gain momentum in the overall race and currently have 424 points, just six back of the third place team.

"The men's A 400 medley relay crushed the old team record," said head coach Barry Schreifels. "Currently the time is sitting at 14 on the NCAA list. It's a bubble time to be invited to the NCAA Championship. 

"AJ continues to amaze us. He finished second in the 100 fly with a new personal best and team record. It was another fantastic night for CLU. The men's B relay was amazing and showed the depth of talent on the team."

Day three of the SCIAC Championships featured the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.

Rodarte was impressive as he set a new program record, on the way to earning his first All-SCIAC award. He won first in the 100 breast with a time of 54.41. 

Nybo added his second individual All-SCIAC honor of the championships and was the runner up in the 100 fly with 48.79. 

The Kingsnmen kept the points and All-SCIAC awards coming as the relay team of Miles GaitanLiam McCallum, Nybo and Rodarte were the runner up in the 400 medley relay with 3:18.86. The team flew through the race, as they defeated the previous CLU record by six seconds.

Also finishing with some top marks for the Purple and Gold was Gaitan in the 100 back (fifth, 51.83), Ben Brewer in the 400 IM (sixth, 4:02.31), McCallum in the 200 free (eighth, 1:41.60), and Brenden Fuggles in the 100 breast (ninth, 58.52). 

The championships finish on Sunday with the top nine for the 1650-yard freestyle, the 0-89= 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and the 400 free relay.
