Kingsmen Notch First-Place Finish at Malibu Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– The California Lutheran University men's swimming and diving started out their season just the way they wished, grabbing a first-place finish at the Malibu Invitational. The Kingsmen recorded a team score of points, edging out second place Biola University with 195 points. 

RESULTS

Starting in the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Miles Gaitan, Brandon Alvarez, Andreas Nybo and Nick Kenny finished second with a time of 1:38.27.

Also earning a second-place finish was Ben Brewer in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:47.29.

Nybo returned to the pool for the 200-yard butterfly and delivered an outstanding time of 1:54.06 to win the event.

Alvarez also continued his success on the day, registering a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.95. Brenden Fuggles and Vincent Hemingway were not far behind, finishing third and fourth in the event respectively.

Chasen Dubs continued Cal Lutheran's winning ways, earning another first-place finish for his team in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the way at 21.87. 

Gaitan tallied another second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.92.

Brewer kept things going for the Kingsmen with his victory in the 500-yard freestyle, earning a stellar time of 4:41.41. Nybo followed shortly after with his second win of the day, this time in the 100-yard butterfly and a great time of 52.09.

Liam McCallum got in on the action with a solid time of 49.53 in the 100-yard freestyle, good enough for third place in the event.

Taking home the 100-yard breaststroke was Alvarez, coming in at 59.31, the only competitor to break the one-minute mark in the event.

Wrapping things up for CLU was Nybo and Gaitan in the 200-yard IM, posting first and second place times of 1:56.75 and 2:01.79.

The Kingsmen get back in the pool Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. when they host Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne for a tri-meet at the Samuelson Aquatic Center.
