Kingsmen Earn First Win of the Season Behind a Multitude of Great Swims

PASADENA, Calif.– The California Lutheran University men's swimming and diving used a multitude of great swims to earn their first of win of the season, defeating Caltech, Redlands and Occidental over the weekend.

The Kingsmen grabbed 833 points to finish in first place. Redlands would slip into second place with 780.5 points while Occidental came in third with 628.5 points. Caltech finished fourth with 542 points.

DAY 1 RESULTS

The Kingsmen started off strong on Saturday as they recorded a first-place finish in the meet's opening race. The quartet of Miles Gaitan, Nathan March, Andreas Nybo and Liam McCallum finished with a time of 3:31.65 to take the 400-yard medley relay to earn 40 points for their team.

Cal Lutheran followed with another outstanding performance in the 500-yard freestyle as the team swept the podium. Ben Brewer took the top spot, clocking in at 4:37.61 while Stephen Blaauw was right behind him at 4:40.71. Registering a third-place finish was Cole Weiderman, touching the wall at 4:49.69.

Nybo returned to the pool for the 200-yard IM and continued his impressive day by winning the event with a time of 1:54.39, earning a crucial 20 points for CLU. The junior kept things with yet another victory, this time in the 100-yard butterfly with his time of 50.80.

The Purple and Gold managed to earn two of the three podium spots in the 50-yard freestyle as Nick Kenny and McCallum finished second and third respectively.

Gaitan recorded his second victory of the day with a time of 52.89 in the 100-yard backstroke.

DAY 2 RESULTS

The Kingsmen continued their success on the second day of competition as they recorded another great relay time as Kye Daniels, McCallum, Kenny and Nybo finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay to earn another 34 points.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Zane Booth, Gaitan, Nybo and Kenny notched yet another second-place time of 1:36.32.

Brewer put in another stellar performance, winning the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:11.81.

Adding to his already outstanding day was Gaitan with another first-place finish, this time in the 200-yard backstroke.

A great individual time of 2:09.91 landed March a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke while Nybo kept things going with a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly.

CLU earned the top two times in the 1650-yard freestyle as Brewer and Blaauw finished first and second respectively.

Cal Lutheran looks to carry on with their winning ways in the new year as their next competition will be Jan. 3-4 when they host the Chris Knorr Invitational at the Samuelson Aquatic Center.
