Schreifels Releases 2019-20 Swimming and Diving Schedule

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– Entering his second season at the helm of California Lutheran University's swimming and diving program, Head Coach Barry Schreifels has announced the teams' 2019-20 schedule.

 Schedule

"We have a lot of new people and we're excited to get to our first meet and start competing," Schreifels said. "I think there's a lot of energy in the program based on the success we had last year. The swimmers are ready to go fast and we're heavy into training."

The violet and gold open their season when they head to Pepperdine University to compete in the Malibu Invitational Oct. 11-12. In the 2018, six Cal Lutheran swimmers reached the podium on the first day of the meet and notched seven top-10 finishes on the weekend.

The team will then return to the Samuelson Aquatic Center to host Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne for their first SCIAC competition of the season.

The Kingsmen and Regals will then embark on a short road trip when they head to Claremont, Calif. to compete in another tri-meet with Chapman and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Nov. 16 before heading to Los Angeles, Calif. on Nov. 23-24 for a meeting with Caltech and Occidental to complete their competition in 2019.

"The team is very proud of their school and they're proud to compete. I think they will surprise themselves. It'll be very fun to compete against somebody outside of practice," Schreifels explained.

Heading back to non-conference competition, Cal Lutheran will open up the new year with the Chris Knorr Invitational Jan. 3-4 where they will face off against UC Santa Cruz and George Fox (Ore.). CLU managed to grab three first-place finishes at this meet a year ago.

In the final home meet of the season, Whittier make their way to the Samuelson Aquatic Center to take on the violet and gold. This is when Senior Day ceremonies will take place, honoring the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the swimming and diving program.

Rounding out dual-meet competition, the team heads to Caltech on Jan. 25 and complete their regular season at Redlands on Feb. 1.

It will all come down to the SCIAC Championships Feb. 20-23 held in Commerce, Calif. and if any Kingsmen or Regals qualify for nationals, they will make their way to Greensboro, N.C. for the NCAA Championships.
