Kingsmen Record Eight Top-10 Finishes at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif — Cal Lutheran men's track & field competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Kingsmen performed well and turned in eight top-10 finishes.

Cooper Curtin led the way and placed fourth in the pole vault. He cleared 4.70 meters and just missed the podium. 

Jake MacKinnon and the 4x100 relay team were next and placed fifth. MacKinnon took fifth in the discus with 36.90m. The relay team of Henry Mendoza, Danny Johnson, Mateo Handall, and Chris Meyer combined for a time of 44.56 seconds. 

MacKinnon (twice), Darrin Parham, and Johnson (twice) added top-10 honors. MacKinnon dominated throwing events. He was seventh in the hammer with 45.32m and ninth in the shot put with 13.09m. Parham was ninth in the triple jump as he recorded a mark of 12.18m. Johnson competed in the long and high jump. He had a mark of 5.90m in the long jump and 1.70m in the high jump. 

The Kingsmen competed in four more events. The finishers in the events were Meyer in the 200 dash (32nd, 22.96), Mendoza in the 100 dash (48th, 12.09), Sebastian Sawyer in the 1500 run (55th, 4:12.11), and Max Segeberg in the 800 run (71st, 2:05.72). 

Meyer and Matthew Crellin both won their heats to win a t-shirt. 

Three Kingsmen also competed at the Whittier Twilight on Friday. Eric Talbert won the 5k and Jonathan Aguilar and Logan Bury both set a personal best. 

Up next for the Kingsmen is the SCIAC #3. Cal Lutheran is at Occidental on Saturday with the start time set for 10 a.m.
