Kingsmen Continue Season at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers; Talbert Records Second-Fastest Time in Program History, Curtin Wins Pole Vault

CLAREMONT, Calif. — In their second meet of the season, Cal Lutheran men's track & field competed at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers on Saturday afternoon. 

Cooper Curtin led the Kingsmen as he won the pole vault. He cleared 4.61 meters as he tied for first. 

Eric Talbert made history as his time in the 3000 meter run was the second fastest time in program history. He won his heat and recorded a time eight minutes and 48.23 seconds to place 13th in the race. 

The Kingsmen had a pair of third and fourth place finishes. The 4x100 relay team of Lucas Weaver, Henry Mendoza, Mateo Handall and Chris Meyer placed third with 44.63 and Jake MacKinnon took bronze in the hammer with 39.88 meters. MacKinnon also finished fourth in two more events. He recorded 13.37m in the shot put and 36.10m in the discus. 

Cal Lutheran had one more top-10 finish and more athletes place just outside. Moises Velasquez was 10th in the triple jump with 11.60m, Weaver was 11th with 17.59 in the 110 meter hurdles and Danny Johnson was 11th in the long jump with 5.78m 

More top finishers in events were Mendoza in the 400 meter dash (13th, 55.69), Bryan Bugni in the javelin (15th, 34.97m), Handall in the 200 meter dash (17th, 23.52), Weaver in the 100 meter dash (26th, 11.60) and Alex Conn in the 1 mile run (64th, 4:51.35). 

The Kingsmen recorded four personal records in all. Velasquez set his PR in the triple jump, Logan Bury had a PR in the 3000 meter run with 9:19.52 and Noah Gargano recorded throws of 20.80m in the hammer and 7.32m in the shot put. 

Up next for Cal Lutheran is the SCIAC #1 on Saturday, March 4 with a start time of 10 a.m.
