SANTA BARBARA, Calif — Cal Lutheran men's track & field was back in action and competed in the Westmont Classic on Saturday afternoon. Logan Bury cracked the program's top-10 list and is now 10th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with 9 minutes and 58.39 seconds.
Jonathan Aguilar turned in a first-place finish as he competed in the 10,000 meter run. He recorded a time of 33:30.90.
The Kingsmen turned in six more top-five marks. Sebastian Sawyer made the podium and took bronze in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with 9:55.79. Cooper Curtin was fourth in the pole vault as he cleared 4.55 meters, Jake MacKinnon was fourth in the hammer with a throw of 41.82m, and Leroy Stoneham was fourth in the 110m hurdles with 19.18.
Mateo Handall and MacKinnon both placed fifth in an event. Handall competed in the 400m run with a time of 51.13 and MacKinnon had a heave of 13.39m in the shot put.
Xavier Reynoso, MacKinnon, Christian Meyer, and Darrin Parham all turned in top-10 performances. Reynoso was sixth in the 400 hurdles with 1:13.44, MacKinnon was ninth in the discus with 35.61m, Meyer was ninth in the 200m run with 23.70 and Parham was ninth in the triple jump with 12.15m.
The Kingsmen competed in three more events. The top finishers were Parham in the long jump (13th, 5.61m), Joshua Webster in the 100m run (13th, 12.18) and Eric Talbert in the 1,500 run (16th, 4:07.02).
Eight Kingsmen recorded a personal best on the day. The personal bests came from Aguilar as he made his debut in the 10000 run, Bury in the steeple, Reynoso in the 1500 (4:48.33), Talbert in the 1500, Parham in the triple jump, Handall in the 400, Meyer in the 400 (51.82), and Henry Mendoza in the 200 (24.48) and 400 (53.97).
The Kingsmen continue the season with the SCIAC #2. Cal Lutheran is at Redlands on Saturday with the start set for 10 a.m.
