Hougo, Holliday Make Program’s Top-10 List

LOS ANGELES — Brooke Hougo and Jasmyne Holliday made marks on the program's top-10 list as Cal Lutheran track & field competed at the Occidental Invite on Saturday.

Before the meet, Hougo had the ninth fastest time on the list for the 3000 meter steeplechase. She improved her time and moved up to eighth. She raced for a time of 12:29.39 seconds and placed ninth at the invite. Holliday raced to a 14th finish in the 100 dash with a time of 12.48. Her time tied for the eighth fastest in program history. 

The Regals were top-10 six more times. Zaria Opara and Taylor Kemp led the way with a top-five finish. Opara just missed the podium in the hammer and was fourth with 45.30 meters. Kemp was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 27.25m. 

Opara (twice), Fatima Cervantes, Kemp and Hougo all added a top-10 mark. Opara competed in the discus and shot put and had throws of 36.95m and 11.52m, respectively. Cervantes was seventh in the high jump as she cleared 1.45m, Hougo was eighth in the steeple and Kemp was ninth in discus with 33.34m. Kemp's throw was a personal record.

The Regals competed in one more event. Sarah Bjornson took 13th in pole vault as she cleared 3.11 meters.

With the season winding down, the Regals are competing at final events as they try to qualify for NCAAs and to get into the program record book. Next up, Cal Lutheran is at the APU Last Chance meet.
