Regals Compete at Westmont Classic; Set Six Personal Bests

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's track & field continued its season at the Westmont Classic on Saturday. Cora Hautekeete cracked the program's top-10 list and now sits eighth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with 12 minutes and 29.64 seconds. 

Zaria Opara led the way with a trio of runner-up finishes. She threw for 44.04 meters in the hammer, 39.28m in the discus, and 10.74m in the shot put. 

The Regals turned in two more top-five marks. Jasmyne Holliday also made the podium and took bronze in the 100 meter run with 12:84. Hautekeete was fourth in the steeplechase.

Fatima Cervantes, Jodie Oparanaku, Cheyanne Rodriguez, Samira Negrete all turned in top-10 performances. Cervantes had three of them as she placed sixth in the 400 hurdles with 1:13.33, ninth in the high jump as she cleared 1.40m, and 10th in the triple jump with 9.26m. Oparanaku was sixth in the 100 hurdles with 17.87, Rodriguez was sixth in the javelin with 27.67m and Negrete was eighth in the 800 meter run with 2:22.83. 

The Regals competed in two more events. The top finishers were Oparanaku in the long jump (12th, 4.14m) and Brooke Hougo in the 1,500 run (23rd, 5:27.42). 

The Regals also set siz personal bests. The personal bests came from Hougo in the 1,500 by 13 seconds, Hautekeete in the steeple by over a minute, Cervantes in the 400 hurdles, Oparanaku in the 110 hurdles, and Taylor Kemp in the hammer (35.68m).  

The Regals continue the season with the SCIAC #2. Cal Lutheran is at Redlands on Saturday with the start set for 10 a.m.
