Bjornson, Hougo Make Top-10 List; Regals Win Three Events at SCIAC #3

LOS ANGELES — Sarah Bjornson and Brooke Hougo made the top-10 list and Bjornson, Samira Negrete, and Zaria Opara all won an event at the SCIAC #3 on Saturday. At the event, the Regals fell to Chapman, Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer, and Redlands.

Bjornson and Hougo are both ninth on the program's all-time top-10 list. Bjornson tied for ninth in the high jump with 1.57 meters and Hougo is ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with 12 minutes and 36.11 seconds. 

Bjornson won the high jump, Negrete claimed the 1500 run and Opara claimed the hammer. Negrete took the 1500 with 4:57.45 and Opara had a distance of 46.25 meters in the hammer. 

The Regals placed top-five in eight more events. Opara was third in discus (36.35m), Bjornson was fourth in pole vault (3.05m), Jasmyne Holliday was fourth in the 100 dash (12.82), Hougo was fourth in the steeplechase, Opara was fourth in shot put (10.84m), Fatima Cervantes was fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.52), Cheyanne Rodriguez was fifth in javelin (26.18m) and the 4x400 relay team of Holliday, Cora Hautekeete, Hougo, and Negrete was fifth (4:21.34). 

The Regals competed in three more events. The top finisher in the events were Cervantes in triple jump (10th, 9.84m), Jodie Oparanaku in long jump (14th, 4.34m), and Niora Abraham in the 200 dash (22nd, 33.30). 

The SCIAC Championships are up next. The Regals are at La Verne on April 29-30. The start time for Saturday is 1:30 p.m. with 10 a.m. set for Sunday.
