Regals Record 15 PRs at SCIAC #1; Opara Wins Discus, Bjornson Takes High Jump

PASADENA, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's track & field recorded 15 PRs as they competed at the SCIAC #1 on Saturday. The Regals were defeated by Caltech 74-58 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 122-30. 

Zaria Opara and Sarah Bjornson led the Regals and both won an event. Opara took the discus with a throw of 37.00 meters and Bjornson won the high jump as she cleared 1.50m. 

Opara was top-three in all three events she competed in. She was also runner-up in the shot put with 11.15m and third in the hammer with 43.67m. 

Jasmyne Holliday and Cheyanne Rodriguez both made the podium in their respective events. Holliday took bronze in the 100 dash with 12.96 and Rodriguez was third in the javelin with 29.25m. 

The Regals had three more top-five finishes. Fatima Cervantes was fourth in the triple jump with 9.77m, Bjornson was fifth in the pole vault with 2.90m, and Brooke Hougo was fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with 13:03.40.

The Regals competed in three more events and the top finisher was Cervantes in the 400 hurdles (sixth, 1:17.17), Niora Abraham in the 200 dash (13th, 34.25), and Dinkenesh Coltvet (15th, 6:07.07).

Notable personal bests include Cervantes in the triple jump, Taylor Kemp in the shot put, discus, and hammer, and Huogo by over a minute in the steeple.

Up next for the Regals is the Oxy Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic on March 11th. The event is set to start at 9 a.m.
