Regals Compete at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers; Five Regals Record a Personal Record

CLAREMONT, Calif. — In their second meet of the season, Cal Lutheran women's track & field competed at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers on Saturday afternoon.

Fatima Cervantes and Sarah Bjornson led the way with their top finish. The duo tied for fifth in the high jump as they cleared 1.45 meters. 

The Regals had eight more athletes place in the top 15. Bjornson was 10th in the pole vault as she cleared 2.75 meters, Cheyanne Rodriguez was 11th in javelin with 27.34m, Jodie Oparanaku was 12th in the 100 meter hurdles with 18.74, Taylor Kemp was 12th in the discus with 28.50m, Rodriguez was 13th in the hammer with 31.97m, Samira Negrete won her heat and was 15th in the 1 mile run with 5:26.12 and Oparanaku was 15th in the 400 meter hurdles and long jump with 1:20.17 and 4.17m, respectively. 

More top finishers in events were Sadie Rico in the shot put (21st, 7.22m), Noira Abraham in the 100 dash (30th, 16.37), Xthlali Nunez in the 100 meter dash (31st, 29.84) and Cora Hautekeete in the 3000 meter run (36th, 11:48.42). 

The Regals had five personal records on the day. Hautekeete set her PR in the 3000 meter run and Brooke Hougo did the same with 12:01.10. The trio of Rodriguez, Liv Gichanga and Sophia Green all had a PR in the hammer throw. Gichanga recorded 27.00m and Green had 20.27m 

Up next for Cal Lutheran is the SCIAC #1 on Saturday, March 4 with a start time of 10 a.m.
