Regals Place Top-10 in Five Events at Pomona-Pitzer Invite

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's track & field competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday afternoon. The Regals performed well and turned in five top-10 finishes.

Zaria Opara led the way and made the podium in the discus. She took bronze with a throw of 40.25 meters. She dominated in the throwing events and was fourth in the hammer with 44.60m and eighth in the shot put with 11.46m. 

Fatima Cervantes turned in two top-10 marks. Cervantes was fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.50m. She also competed in the high jump and placed seventh as she cleared 1.50m. 

The Regals competed in six more events. The top finisher in each event was Sarah Bjornson in the pole vault (13th, 2.88m), Brooke Hougo in the 400 hurdles (13th, 1:19.24), Jasmyne Holliday in the 100 dash (14th, 12.69), Samira Negrete in the 800 run (19th, 2:24.54), Cora Hautekeete in the 1500 run (28th, 5:04.79), and Niora Abraham in the 200 dash (55th, 34.00). 

Hautekeete recorded a 13 second personal best in the 1500 run. She also earned a t-shirt for winning her heat. Cervantes set a personal record in the triple jump. 

Up next for the Regals is the SCIAC #3. Cal Lutheran is at Occidental on Saturday with the start time set for 10 a.m.
