Weiderman, 200 Free Relay Team Runner-Up in Tri-Meet at Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. Cole Weiderman and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Nathan Sellers, Joshua Nekoba, Collin Spargur and Ethan Smith were runner-up to lead Cal Lutheran men's swimming and diving at a tri-meet against Pomona-Pitzer and Trinity (Texas) on Saturday afternoon.

It was the first meet of 2023 for the Kingsmen as they were on the campus of Pomona-Pitzer. 

Weiderman led the way and took second in the 1,000-yard free with a blazing time of 10 minutes and 13.08 seconds. The 200 free relay ended the day and the Kingsmen grabbed silver. The team of Sellers, Nekoba, Spargur and Smith combined for a time of 1:26.84.

Cal Lutheran had two swimmers place third. Lincoln Hall was third in the 100 breaststroke with 58.77 and Sebi Petho was third in the 500 free with 4:53.65.

Placing fourth for the Kingsmen was Kyle Denson in the 100 backstroke with 56.19, Nekoba in the 50 free with 21.54, Caelan Jack in the 200 back with 2:02.88 and Marcel Hurtubise in the 100 butterfly.

The Kingsmen competed in six more events. The top performers were Petho in the 200 free (fifth, 1:49.41), Asher Steelman in the 200 fly (fifth, 2:03.53) and 400 individual medley (fifth, 4:27.15), the 400 medley relay of Denson, Hall, Huturbise, and Sellers (fifth, 3:35.71), Spargur in the 100 free (seventh, 49.20) and Keegan Lisenby in the 200 breast (10th, 2:22.78).

The Kingsmen are back in action next weekend as they host Chapman. The meet starts at 10:30 a.m.
