Kingsmen Claim Eight Events, Swim Past Oxy

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's swim and dive won eight events as the Kingsmen defeated the Occidental Tigers 157-103 in a dual on Saturday afternoon.

Nathan Sellers and Kyle Denson won two events each while Joshua Nekoba, Sebi Petho and Caelan Jack added one. The Kingsmen also won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

On top of all the wins, Asher Steelman cracked the program record book. Steelman raced to the ninth fastest time in program history for the 1,000 free. He clocked a time of 10:33.02 and placed second. 

Sellers won the 100 and 200 free. He touched the wall first in the 200 with 1:46.81 and followed it up in the 100 with 48.15. 

Denson won both backstroke events for the second consecutive meet. He claimed the 100 with 54.47 and the 200 with 1:58.61. 

Nekoba claimed the 50 free with a blazing time of 21.61, Petho took the 500 free with 4:59.20 and Jack won the 200 IM with 2:01.46. 

The quartet of Nekoba, Collin Spargur, Sellers and Ethan Smith wrapped up the dual with a win. They took the 200 free relay with 1:26.47. 

The Kingsmen turned in four runner-up finishes on the day, three of which were individual. Jake Maher was second in the 100 breast with 1:02.76, Keegan Lisenby took silver in the 200 breast with 2:21.61 and Marcel Hubertise was runner-up in the 100 fly with 53.69. 

The group of Denson, Sellers, Marcel Hubertise and Nekoba combined for a runner-up mark in the 200 medley relay with 1:37.72. The dual featured one more event, the 200 fly, and Steelman was third with 2:02.28. 

The Kingsmen continue the season next weekend at the Occidental Invite. The time is still to be determined.
