Kingsmen Dominate La Verne, Fall to Stags in SCIAC Tri-Meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen split Saturday afternoon's tri-meet in the second to last Southern California Intercollegiate Conference dual before championships. The Kingsmen dominated the La Verne Leopards 220-40, but fell to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 218-58.

Junior Ben Brewer picked up a pair of first place finishes on the afternoon, taking the 1650-free (15:58.25) and the 500-free (4:45.16). Following closely in both races, sophomore Stephen Blaauw took second in the 1650 (16:11.13) and third in the 500 (4:47.74). 

With the third first place title on the day, freshman Nathan March took the 200-breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:11.52. Also on the podium, junior Thomas Hamburger took second in the 200-butterfly (1:59:44) and sophomore Andreas Nybo claimed second in the 100-butterfly (51.46). 

Nybo went on to also take third in the 200-freestyle relay (1:29.62) alongside sophomore Nick Kenny, junior Liam McCallum and freshman Andrew Meneses

Rounding out the top-three finishers, McCallum took third in the 200-free (1:46.57), while freshman Miles Gaitan placed third in both the 100-back (55.38) and the 200-back (2:00.19). 

The Kingsmen return to the pool for their last SCIAC dual on Saturday, February 9, against the Whittier Poets and Redlands Bulldogs. Events begin 10:30 am at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center in Whittier, California.
