Cal Lutheran Closes Season at 2019 NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Grace Sanchez and junior Ben Brewer represented Cal Lutheran on the final of competition at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

Brewer closed his season with 19th in the finals of 1650-free, clocking in 16:20.97. Sanchez also wraps her career in a Cal Lutheran uniform with 52nd in this morning's preliminaries with a time of 52.82 seconds. 

Saturday additionally marks the conclusion of the 2018-19 season for the Regals and Kingsmen, and the first year under the helm of head coach Barry Schreifels. 

In total, the Kingsmen made history with five new program records; three from national qualifier, sophomore Andreas Nybo (100-fly, 200-fly and 200-IM), one from Brewer (400-IM) and the final from junior Liam McCallum (200-free). Nybo also adds his All-American honors from yesterday's 200-butterfly results and the SCIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year selection to his record-breaking season. As a team, the Kingsmen went 5-2 on the year and finished fourth in the SCIAC standings along with eight all-conference distinctions. 

On the women's side, freshman Brieyana Walton (100-breast); the 200-Medley Relay team of Avery Conrad, Walton, Brianna Baldwin and Sanchez; and Abby Hiller (3m dive) also made their way to program's all-time leader board. As a team, the Regals went 2-5 and finished seventh in the conference standings.
