Swim & Dive Releases 2018-19 Schedule

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — New Swimming and Diving Head Coach Barry Schreifels announced Cal Lutheran's 2018-19 schedule, Friday afternoon, featuring an earlier start to the season, the CLU Sprint Meet, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents and the Chris Knorr Invitational.

"We have been training hard and the swimmers have been competing daily with each other in practice. They can't wait to race against other swimmers from other teams. Our focus right now is the SCIAC Championships. Every run, dry land workout, strength session, swim practice, and even every race in a dual meet, is with the championship in mind," explained Schreifels, "From there, the overarching primary goal during the season is to qualify our swimmers, divers, and relay teams for the season ending NCAA Championships."

The Kingsmen and Regals open their year at the Malibu Invite, less than a week away, on October 12-13 hosted by Pepperdine University. The team then returns home to the Samuelson Aquatics Center to host the Cal Lutheran Sprint Meet on Oct. 27. Last season, the Kingsmen claimed eight events and took home the top spot at the Sprint Meet with 1,206 points, while the Regals won seven events and finished second with 825 points.

Two conference duals follow with an away trip to Caltech on November 10 and home contest against Chapman on the 17th. Though Cal Lutheran did not compete against Caltech last season, both the Kingsmen and Regals picked up wins against the Panthers.

"The SCIAC dual meets are a lot of fun. It is simple - our violet and gold against their colors.  The tough competition brings out the strength and the pride of our swimmers and divers."

Then it's back to non-conference competition over the holiday season with the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slug Invitational on Nov. 30-Decmeber 1, where swim and dive claimed a combined 32 events last season, and the Chris Knorr Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran on January 4-5 to open the new year.

As the spring semester picks back up, the team competes in four consecutive SCIAC meets. In January, they compete at Pomona-Pitzer on the 12th before coming home to face Occidental on the19th. February features two tri-meets, including Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne on the 12th and Whittier and Redlands a week later on the 19th.

It all builds up the SCIAC Championships on February 21-24 held in Commerce, California. If any Kingsmen or Regals qualify for nationals, they will to Greensboro, North Carolina from March 20-23 for the NCAA Division III Championships.
