Regals 200-Medley Relay Sets New School Record; Kingsmen 800-Free Relay Claims Bronze

COMMERCE, Calif. — Both the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen and Regals Swim and Dive Teams currently sit in sixth place after day one at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. After the first five events, the women hold 82 points and the men hold 76. 

The Regals opened the afternoon with a big moment for program history, breaking a nine-year-old team record in the 200-medley relay. Freshman Avery Conrad, freshman Brieyana Walton, junior Brianna Baldwin and senior Grace Sanchez clocked in at 1:50.17, good for sixth place amongst the A-cut, and beating the record set in 2010 by Fry, How Tam Fat, Graves and Nolan of 1:59.95. Also in the women's 200-medley relay, senior Anna Lundsten, junior Emily Glass, sophomore McKenzie Kelly and junior Jamie Shultz finished 15th at 1:54.28

On the men's side, freshman Miles Gaitan, freshman Nathan March, sophomore Andreas Nybo and sophomore Nick Kenny finished seventh (1:34.94), and senior Mark Raybukh, freshman Vincent Hemingway, senior Jack Hartwell and freshman Andrew Meneses took 16th (1:37.64).

Moving on to the 800-freestyle relay, the women took seventh and 16th.  Making the A-cut, junior Emily Sharpe, Sanchez, junior Jessica Van der Laan and Kelly notched an 8:05.05, while Shultz, Lundsten, Conrad and senior Allison Farre clocked in at 8:28.70.

For the Kingsmen, junior Liam McCallum, junior Ben Brewer, sophomore Stephen Blaauw and Nybo earned bronze in the 800-free relay at 6:49.36. Alongside them, Hartwell, sophomore Kye Daniels, junior Chase Ahrens and senior Jack Kirby came in 16th at 7:09.08.

Rounding out the day's competitors, sophomore Abby Hiller finished 11th (295.70) in the one-meter dive and junior Brianna DeValk came in 17th (227.75).

Competition continues tomorrow at the Brenda Villa Aquatics Center in Commerce, California, and concludes on Sunday, February 24. For more information and the full schedule, head to TheSCIAC.org.
