Nybo Named Athlete of the Year; Four Kingsmen Earn All-SCIAC

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its 2019 Men's Swimming and Diving All-Conference honorees, Wednesday afternoon. Highlighting the lineup, sophomore Andreas Nybo was named the 2019 Athlete of the Year and was accompanied by junior Ben Brewer, junior Liam McCallum and sophomore Stephen Blaauw on the honors list. 

Nybo led the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen to a fourth place finish in the team standings and earned four all-conference distinctions during the championship weekend. Individually, he not only claimed gold in the 200-individual medley, but also set a new meet record with a time of 1:49.43. He also finished first in the 200-butterfly at 1:47.85 and third in the 100-butterfly at 49.15. 

On opening day, Nybo additionally nabbed third in the 800-free relay alongside McCallum, Brewer and Blaauw, clocking in at 6:49.36. McCallum went on to earn All-SCIAC with second in the 200-free, touching the wall at 1:40.17. 

Brewer picked up three all-conference honors of his own. He took second in the 1650-free (15.34.47), just .02 seconds behind first, and third in the 500-free (4:29.36) and third in the 400-individual medley (3:59.10). 

Though the regular season may be over, Brewer and Nybo will continue their season in Greensboro, North Carolina, on March 20-23 at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
